Terms of Use

Effective date: August 28, 2026

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the macOS application Daily News: Highlight Bar and related services (collectively, the “Application”) operated by Habip Ertuğrul Dağdemir (the “Service Provider”). By downloading, installing or using the Application, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Application.

1. Service provider

Name: Habip Ertuğrul Dağdemir
Email: habipertugruldagdemir@gmail.com

2. The service

The Application aggregates publicly available news event data from The GDELT Project and other sources, and uses configured artificial-intelligence services to generate short rewritten headlines. Use of GDELT data is subject to the GDELT Project Terms of Use, which require a citation to The GDELT Project and a link to https://www.gdeltproject.org/. Headlines, article text, source names, logos and links belong to their respective publishers. Links open third-party websites governed by their own terms and privacy policies. News information is provided for general information and is not legal, financial, medical or other professional advice.

The Application does not require a named account. An anonymous authentication identity is created to provide synchronisation, trial and subscription features. The handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.

3. License and intellectual property

Subject to these Terms and Apple’s applicable App Store terms, the Service Provider grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Application on Apple devices that you own or control. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works from, reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Application except where applicable law expressly permits it.

The Application’s code, design, original text, trademarks, logos and branding are owned by the Service Provider or its licensors. You may not remove proprietary notices or use our marks without written permission. Publisher content and trademarks remain with their owners.

4. Trials and subscriptions

  • The Application provides one 14-calendar-day free use period managed by the Application and our backend. It is not an Apple subscription, does not request payment authorization, does not renew automatically and creates no charge when it ends.
  • Trial eligibility is limited to one per installation/device under our abuse-prevention controls. The trial uses a random installation identifier in the macOS Keychain and Apple DeviceCheck signals. Reinstalling, resetting Keychain data, creating a new macOS user or restoring macOS does not guarantee a new or restored trial.
  • If a technical error makes an active trial unavailable, contact support with the in-App Support ID. Any manual extension is discretionary.
  • After the trial, Premium access requires an auto-renewing subscription purchased explicitly through Apple’s App Store. Prices, duration and renewal terms are shown before purchase.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Manage, cancel and request refunds through your Apple account and Apple’s support processes. Deleting the Application or your App account does not itself cancel an Apple subscription.
  • Apple processes payment. We use RevenueCat to validate and synchronise entitlement status. We may change features or pricing subject to applicable law and App Store rules; price changes to existing subscriptions are handled by Apple and require consent where required.

5. Acceptable use

You must use the Application lawfully and must not: (a) copy, modify, translate, redistribute or commercially exploit it except as permitted by law or Apple; (b) bypass purchase validation, entitlement checks, trial limits or security controls; (c) use bots, scrapers or automated requests to overload the service; (d) probe, scan or attack the Application or its infrastructure; (e) submit unlawful, infringing, abusive, threatening, hateful, deceptive, malicious or privacy-violating material; or (f) use the Application to violate another person’s rights or applicable law.

6. User content

The Application does not currently provide public posting, messaging or user-upload features. Saved articles and preferences are private to your anonymous App account. If a future feature allows you to submit content, you must own or have permission to submit it, must not include another person’s personal data without a lawful basis, and grant us only the limited license needed to operate that feature. We may remove content or suspend access where required by law or these Terms.

7. AI features

AI is used to rewrite clustered news items as short headlines in your selected language, and to apply your category preferences. AI output may be incomplete, inaccurate or unsuitable for a particular purpose. Do not rely on an AI headline as the sole basis for an important decision; consult the original publisher. Headlines and short publisher snippets from GDELT, plus related metadata, may be processed by our configured AI gateway providers as described in the Privacy Policy. Full article HTML is not scraped or sent.

8. Third-party services and connectivity

The Application uses third-party services including Apple, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, Firebase Authentication/App Check, RevenueCat, OpenRouter and/or Vercel AI Gateway, GDELT and news publishers. Their terms apply to their services: Apple, Firebase, RevenueCat, OpenRouter, Vercel and the GDELT Project Terms of Use.

Some features require an active internet connection. You are responsible for your network access, device, operating-system compatibility and any charges imposed by your internet or network provider. We are not responsible for interruptions caused by third-party networks, publishers, providers, outages or data limits.

9. Availability, updates and termination

We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation, continued availability of any feature, or compatibility with every macOS version. We may release updates, discontinue older versions, modify features, or discontinue the service. Install updates when offered; if you do not, the Application may stop working or lose support.

We may suspend or terminate access for a material breach, unlawful activity, infringement, abuse, attacks on the service, or risks to users or the Service Provider. Where a breach can be cured, we will normally give notice and a reasonable opportunity to cure, unless immediate action is required. On termination, your license ends and you must stop using and delete the Application. Provisions concerning intellectual property, payment obligations, disclaimers, liability, indemnification and dispute resolution survive.

10. Disclaimers

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE APPLICATION AND SERVICE ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, RELIABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT OR AVAILABILITY. Machine-processed news and AI headlines may contain errors, omissions or delays. Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer rights.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service Provider is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, lost profits, lost data or business interruption arising from your use of or inability to use the Application or third-party content. Our total aggregate liability for a claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the Application or related service in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or the minimum amount required by law, whichever is greater. We retain liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or wilful misconduct.

12. Indemnification

To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Service Provider and its agents from claims, losses and reasonable costs arising directly from your material breach of these Terms, unlawful use of the Application, or intentional misuse of the service. This does not apply to claims caused by our negligence, breach of these Terms or violation of law.

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Türkiye, excluding conflict-of-law rules, except that mandatory consumer-protection laws in your country continue to apply. Disputes may be brought before a court with jurisdiction under applicable law; nothing here limits a mandatory right to sue in another competent court.

14. Digital Services Act

The Application is a news and summarisation tool and does not currently host a public platform or user-to-user content service. Accordingly, DSA intermediary-service provisions generally do not apply to the Application. If a future feature makes a provision applicable, notices of allegedly illegal content may be sent to habipertugruldagdemir@gmail.com; we will provide reasons for applicable restrictions and preserve any mandatory redress rights.

15. Severability and entire agreement

If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions remain effective. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement concerning the Application and replace prior understandings about its use.

16. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms by posting a revised version with a new effective date. Material changes will be communicated where required by law. Questions, complaints and notices may be sent to habipertugruldagdemir@gmail.com. Publisher and rights-holder removal requests are described in section 17.

17. Publisher and rights-holder requests

The Application displays short AI-rewritten headlines derived from publicly available news metadata supplied by The GDELT Project (titles, short snippets, outlet names and URLs). We do not scrape, store or host full publisher articles. Headlines, article text, source names, logos and trademarks remain with their owners.

This section is for rights holders only (publishers, authors, or their authorised agents). End users reporting a wrong headline, broken link or inappropriate content should use the in-App Report control, or email the address below with the subject “User report”.

To request that a URL, a story, or your publication be excluded from the Application, email habipertugruldagdemir@gmail.com with the subject line Publisher removal request and include:

  • your name, organisation, role and a contact email;
  • a statement that you are authorised to act for the rights holder (an email from an official domain is normally sufficient);
  • the original article URL(s) and, if known, the headline shown in the Application;
  • the scope of the request: (a) a specific URL, (b) a specific story or cluster, or (c) your publication or domain going forward; and
  • in one or two sentences, the legal basis (for example copyright, press publishers’ right, trademark or personality right).

We will acknowledge complete requests within two business days. Where a request is valid and sufficiently specific, we will stop displaying the identified material in the Application within seven calendar days of acknowledgement. Removal covers display in the Application (the rewritten headline, source links and related metadata). We cannot delete the item from GDELT or from the original publisher’s site. If the same URL is later re-indexed, we will keep an internal exclusion so that it does not reappear.

Incomplete requests may be returned for more information. We may decline requests that are not from a rights holder, that are overbroad, or that we reasonably believe are not required by law. This process is a voluntary notice channel; it is not a designated DMCA agent filing and does not waive any defence available to the Service Provider.
